This publication provides information for homeowners and developers about wildfire hazards and how to assess them, and how to make homes built in the wildland safer and more likely to survive a wildfire. Topics include ignition sources, the 5-step assessment process, and a list of references (hazard assessment systems) that form the basis for the hazard components and methodology outlined in the document. There is also a bibliography and information about Structure Ignition Assessment Model (SIAM), a computer program being developed to rate the ignition potential of structures located in the wildland/urban interface.
