North Carolina State University

This annotated animation from North Carolina State University shows the hypothetical development of a soil profile. The animation shows the evolution of bedrock to fully developed soil in a warm, humid climate as the weathering front progresses downward over 100,000 years. Eventually, well formed O, A, Bw, C, and R horizons are present. The animation may be advanced and rewound manually and captions provide explanations for each stage of soil development. Unfortunately, some of the captions are cut off at the bottom of the screen.
