This section of the Milwaukee Public Museum website presents a very brief overview of the geologic eras (Cenozoic, Mesozoic, Paleozoic, and Precambrian) and periods (Quaternary, Tertiary, Cretaceous, Jurassic, Triassic, Permian, Carboniferous, Devonian, Silurian, Ordovician, Cambrian, Proterozoic, and Archean) in terms of the organisms present. There are also papers on the flying reptile Pteranodon and mass extinctions.
