This resource is part of a mineralogy course. Topics include the petrographic microscope, light behavior,the refractive index, use of an interference color chart, interference figures and how to obtain them, and two lab exercises. The website briefly explains some key concepts crucial to developing mineral identification skills. The site would be useful as an introduction or review of the basic principals of mineral identification using a petrographic microscope.
