
The National Science Foundation (NSF) reports on the role of this organization in regards to "Environmental Science and Engineering for the 21st Century". This is a comprehensive report totaling 127 pages and includes diagrams and illustrations in addition to text. Some of the topics covered in this report include: specific biocomplexity issues, outline of NSF-supported environmental education and assessment programs, review of current NSF environmental activities, and a summary of input received regarding NSF operations. This report does not address the details of specific environmental research, however the broader goals of various research agencies are presented along with the systems established to encourage the sharing of information between government agencies. The information used in this study was collected from interactions with scientists, government agencies, involved citizens, and reviews of scientific research documents. The purpose of this report is to assist NSF efforts to create more sustainable relationships between environmental resource use and global commerce.
