This site provides an explanation of igneous rocks and their formation, classification, and identification. Classification systems can be based on color and texture, mineral composition, or the suite the rock belongs to. The web site covers types of magma, Bowen's reaction series, igneous rock evolution and phase diagrams. There is also a self-test on identification of common igneous minerals. This resource is part of the Teaching Petrology collection. http://serc.carleton.edu/NAGTWorkshops/petrology03/index.html
