Developing Geoscience Student-Learning Centered Courses
Mark T Harris November 2002 Journal of Geoscience Education v50 n 5 p515

This paper from the Journal of Geoscience Education discusses the development of courses that were designed with a focus on how students learn new content. Specific strategies include establishing clear objectives for the course, using questionnaires, surveys and discussions throughout the course to monitor student understanding and to encourage student feedback about the course, and assigning a variety of different assignments, such as writing papers, group posters and data analysis projects. The final sections provide comments and reflections on this teaching project from the perspective of students and the author.
