Nearly 10 years of aerosol measurements from a network that covers much of the western hemisphere were analyzed to determine the variance of aerosol concentrations and their effects on pollution and human health. Results suggest that the daily cycle of local sources of aerosols cause a diurnal trend in the pollutant optical depth and that there is very little diurnal change over the oceans.
