Observations of a Protistan Disease Similar to QPX in Mercenaria mercenaria(Hard Clams) from the Coast of Massachusetts
Roxanna Smolowitz, Dale Leavitt, Frank Perkins January 1998 Journal of Invertebrate Pathology v 71(1) p 9-25

This Journal of Invertebrate Biology scholarly article describes two separate occurrences of QPX-like parasitic infections that caused substantial mortality to 1.5-2 year-old hard clams grown in clam lease sites along the southeastern coast of Massachusetts in the summer and fall of 1995. The report includes image-rich results from pathological studies and compares the parasite to a similar organism previously identified in Canada.
