A modeling approach to teaching evolutionary biology in high schools
C. Passmore, and J. Stewart 2002 Journal of Research in Science Teaching v39(3), p185-204
This article addresses common student misconceptions of evolutionary biology concepts by discussing the philosophy of understanding evolution and the development of a 9-week high school evolutionary biology curriculum designed from this perspective. In this curriculum, emphasis is placed on examining and using models. Students have the opportunity to develop, elaborate on, and use Darwin’s model of natural selection. Examples of student work are included.
