Discipline-based educational development
M. Healey, and A. Jenkins 2003 The Scholarship of Academic Development, Open University Press, Milton Keynes
This chapter focuses on the scholarship of teaching in various disciplines. It draws on the wider literature but is based on the authors’ experiences. Teaching has become disconnected from disciplines at universities and thus from its intellectual community. Viewing teaching as generic reduces it to the technical matter of performance. The emergence of discipline-based academic development and scholarship and research related to discipline-based pedagogy is challenging the generic focus on teaching. The authors find that discipline-based educational development is important and complements other generic forms.
