This paper addresses the development of the scholarship of teaching. It discusses what is meant by scholarship of teaching, linking the scholarship of teaching to the disciplines, how to develop the scholarship of teaching through the disciplines, and how to match the scholarship of teaching with that of research. The author states that if teaching is to be taken as seriously as research, there is a need for it to be more public and open to evaluation by peers. The content is based largely on educational literature and the focus is on undergraduate teaching in particular. Examples are taken from the discipline of geography.
