Who Believes What? Clearing up Confusion over Intelligent Design and Young-Earth Creationism
Marcus R. Ross 2005 Journal of Geoscience Education v53 n3 p319

The question of what differentiates young-Earth creationism from Intelligent Design has led to inaccurate and confusing terminology, and hinders both understanding and dialogue. This article from the Journal of Geoscience Education presents The Nested Hierarchy of Design, a multiple-character classification system that categorizes teleological positions and results in an accurate classification of numerous positions. This method avoids the philosophical and theological pitfalls of previous methods and enables construction of accurate definitions for various teleological positions. The incorporation of the Nested Hierarchy of Design in classroom discussion could better represent the variety of opinions among students, clarify the many teleological positions, and help to reduce tensions between educators, students, and the public.
