This article originally appeared in the Rapid City Journal and addresses the excavation of fossils in the Badlands. The history of fossil hunting and the current debate between the National Park Service, who wants to recover the fossils, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe, who owns the land in question and is opposed to the dig, is explained.
