Daniel C. Edelson, Douglas N. Gordin, Roy D. Pea 1999 Journal of Learning Sciences v. 8 n.3/4 p. 391-450

The implementation of inquiry learning in classrooms presents a number of significant challenges. The authors explore these challenges through a program of research on the use of scientific visualization technologies to support inquiry-based learning in the geosciences. In this paper, five significant challenges to implementing inquiry-based learning are described and strategies for addressing them through the design of technology and curriculum are presented.
