Sequence Stratigraphic Distribution of Coaly Rocks: Fundamental Controls and Paralic Examples
Kevin Bohacs, John Suter October, 1997 AAPG Bulletin V. 81, No. 10, p1612-1639

This paper presents concepts that can be used to locate and evaluate hydrocarbon source rocks. The authors contend that the occurrence, distribution and character of coals vary in a predictable manner related to accommodation rates, and can be forecast within a sequence stratigraphic framework. Also included are maps, stratigraphic columns, and diagrams to further explain depositional sequences.
