Coastal and Deltaic Sedimentation of Upper Cretaceous Eagle Sandstone: Relation to Shallow Gas Accumulations, North Central Montana
Dudley D. Rice March 1980 The American Association of Petroleum Geologists v.64, No. 3, p. 316-338

This paper describes the depositional environment of the three members of the Eagle Sandstone, as interpreted from outcrop studies. The author correlates these coastal environments with the generation and subsequent migration of natural gas. Also included are maps, stratigraphic columns, cross sections, and a geologic history of the progradations that occurred during the transgression of the interior seaway that resulted in the deposition of the Eagle Sandstone.
