A field experiment in ground-water hydrology for introductory earth science students
Timothy D. Vick, C. E. Buchwald 1981 Journal of Geological Education v29, p116-120

This article describes how to install a shallow well field and how to build the equipment needed to conduct a pump test. Most of the equipment can be made from items purchased at retail and hardware stores (rulers, speaker wire, batteries, screwdrivers, etc.). The article also describes the procedures to run the pump test successfully, including topics and questions for students to consider.
