This Science Education article presents the finding that successful Earth science curricula for indigenous learners share an emphasis on outdoor education, a place and problem-based structure, and the inclusion of traditional indigenous knowledge in the instruction. The authors present an analysis of common field-based elements used in various curricula and provide an explanation for the success of this design.
