S. Simmons, P. Norris, Published by Springer-Verlag Tokyo

This scientific paper describes the microbial community composition of samples collected from acidic hydrothermal vents on the Aeolian Island of Vulcano (Italy). The authors review the environmental conditions of the sampling sites and the molecular and microbial strain isolating procedures used to characterize the microbial community. Finally, the diversity of microorganisms discovered using the enrichment culture techniques is compared with those predicted by environmental rDNA analysis.
