The Great Evolution Trial: Use of Role-Play in the Classroom
J. Duveen, J. Solomon 1994 Journal of Research in Science Teaching v32 no5 p575-582

This article describes the design and implementation of a role-playing exercise dealing with a fictional blasphemy trial of Charles Darwin after the publication of "Origin of Species". The students play officers of the court and witnesses representing a variety of 19th-century historical scientific and religious perspectives. Interviews conducted months later showed that the students had very strong memories of the exercise and the material they learned preparing for it.
