Developing and Writing NSF Proposals: A Virtual Workshop for 2YC Geoscience Faculty
This project aims to introduce participants to NSF grant opportunities suitable for 2YCs as the lead institution; provide support and mentoring to 2YC faculty teams in developing, writing, and submitting NSF proposals; foster a community of 2YC faculty members writing NSF grant proposals; and build expertise and confidence for developing NSF proposals in 2YC faculty. The project will also investigate the workshop elements that are most effective for supporting 2YC faculty in developing, writing, and submitting NSF proposals.
The project will offer two virtual proposal development and writing workshops, one in 2026 and another in 2027. These will support 2YC faculty through the process of NSF proposal development, writing, and submission. Distinctive elements of this project include:
- A focus on 2YCs, addressing challenges to proposal writing and submission faced by 2YC faculty, building on their strengths, and increasing 2YC engagement with NSF.
- Significant 2YC expertise on project leadership team and other personnel: 2YC PIs, 2YC writing consultants, including a 2YC writing center coordinator, 2YC mentor reviewers, 2YC presenters who are PIs of NSF grants, and 2YC grants officers.
- A disciplinary focus on geoscience will provide support for 2YC geoscience faculty, build capacity in the 2YC geoscience community, and promote multidisciplinary 2YC efforts.
- Opportunities for grant officers at 2YCs
- Incorporation of strategies successful in supporting writing as a process and a project team that includes experienced writing consultants.
