Loading txt file into Excel

Hello All, I post some email in case others are having problems. Please make suggestions to clarify the situation if you have them, or let others know if you are haing the same problems. Rita
Answer to mail at bottom...
From what you have said, if you have a file on your computer called pptTC-C-MN.txt, then you should NOT double click on it. You should double click on Excel. There is a header across the top of the computer for Excel. There may appear a workbook page that is empty. (It may not appear..so don't worry if all you get is the Excel banner across the top) You will go to the File menu (on top) and drop down to the OPEN choice. The Excel program will bring up a browser window to let you choose a directory and filename on your computer. I am thinking that you will have your file on your Desktop. You single click on the file name and click on Open or OK" It will show the first few lines of your data file in a small box. It will go through step 1,2,3--most of your answers will be "Next" and "Finish", but in step 1, you need to say "delimited" and in step 2 you need to make sure the delimiter is a "comma". This is how it's supposed to work...you can try it again, but attached is an unzipped file with a slightly different name- ppt-MN.txt in case you have accidentally introduced changes to your original MN precip file.
By the way, a .zip file cannot load into Excel. It must be unzipped first. (Use Winzip or whatever you have for software to decompress a file) A zip file can contain several files of different types "squashed" together into one big file- a jpeg and a txt and an xls...for example. When you unzip them, they are all separate files again. They were squashed together by the person sending you the files to speed up the transfer.

Hello Rita,

I have tried a number of times to open the EOS data files in Excel and have failed. These files are downloaded on the notepad for some reason. Should I have specified that it needs to be downloaded on excel itself? Why is it not working out? I do not know what am I doing wrong. Please help.
