Spelman's Biology curriculum, for example, is designed to promote integrative learning in three ways. First, each course in the four course introductory sequence emphasizes one area of content and one skill, which form the core of a bull's eye. Each subsequent layer in the bull's eye explicitly states which skill and content it emphasizes. Outlining the curriculum in that way emphasizes the skills and content the students are applying in subsequent courses.
