Figure 2. Conceptual model of wet meadow hydroecology in pristine (A), degraded (B), and restored conditions (C) (from Loheide and Gorelick, 2005). The pristine condition has a shallow water table and more mesic vegetation, while the degraded condition has a deeper water table and more xeric vegetation. The pond and plug restoration decreases the water table depth and leads to more mesic vegetation.
