Figure 1 A typical rock glacier from Alaska, Jumbo Creek Rock Glacier, near McCarthy, Wrangell Mountains. This is one of the features observed in the early 20th Century by Capps (1910). The steep front is distinctive for an advancing, active rock glacier flowing down the valley axis This is a 'tongue-shaped' or 'valley floor' rock glacier.
