Figure 4: Schematic diagram of sand movement along southern Monterey Bay. Arrow size loosely correlates to measured or estimated transfer rate. The "littoral drift in" is chiefly from erosion of adjacent seacliffs, with a minor contribution from the Salinas River. Sand mining activities located up-current may reduce the littoral volume entering the system.
