Average annual discharge of the Macquarie River at gauging stations downstream of Burrendong Dam (source: Dept. Land and Water Conservation, NSW, 2001). Discharges have been adjusted to overcome different gauging periods by regression of station data against Narromine (1915-1979). Major tributaries indicated by solid triangles and major natural or regulated distributaries by empty inverted triangles. Most distributaries are regulated by weirs and canals but utilise natural palaeochannels or distributary channels which would naturally take flood discharge.
