As shown in this dataset, a pronounced inflection point (an increase in heat content) began in/around 1970, with heat content exceeding the high in the 1960s around the year 1980. Since that time, heat content over the last 30 years has surpassed the heat content of prior decades, suggesting the oceans are warming at rates faster than before.
