Cohort 6 Application

AK UNiTE is an NSF-funded Research Coordination Network in Undergraduate Biology Education that focuses on providing researchers in Alaska with mentorship support that will promote the participation of diverse students in biological research. We are excited to announce that we are now accepting for Cohort 6 of participation (2026-2027) from both returning and new cohort members. Team submissions are encouraged!

Proposal Guidelines

Option 1: Mentoring Professional Development - attend a conference, webinar, workshop, etc. related to mentoring:

  1. Identify the specific professional development opportunity, its relevance and importance to mentees,
  2. Description of the specific activities that you will perform (such as presenting a poster, giving a talk, exploring future research collaborations),
  3. A statement of anticipated impact on development of your inclusive mentorship practices.

Option 2: Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience - develop and/or implement a full CURE in the classroom:

  1. An outline/timeline of your CURE project, with the supplies and/or equipment that you will need
  2. A description of your class research goals and specific resources you will use,
  3. A plan on how you will assess student learning and incorporate mentoring into the plan.

Option 3: Mentoring Development - Mentoring future development as aligned with AK UNiTE Midterm Outcomes:

  1. An outline of your plans to do future work with the network or ensure network sustainability
  2. Who will be involved and what will their roles be?
  3. A timeline of what you will accomplish.

Documentation

In order to process your funding request, AK UNiTE will need to have documentation of your costs. Please provide a budget for the planned use of funds as well as documents or screenshots that demonstrate the event or material being purchased. Our preference is to have all this information in a single PDF, but if you need to upload more than one file, you can do so. If you need to submit more than 3 files, please contact uaa_akunite@alaska.edu.

Agreement:

As a cohort member of AK UNiTE,

  • I understand that due to the federal situation regarding the National Science Foundation canceling funding, the money for this award may be terminated at any time.
  • I understand that when sharing work from this project, I am required to acknowledge the original authors, AK UNiTE, and NSF as funding sources in any publications or other presentations.
  • I understand my application materials may be shared with other cohort members to build the network.
  • If awarded funding, I agree to submit deliverables that will be shared publicly on the AK UNiTE website.
  • I will support AK UNiTE's mentoring project by completing any surveys administered by this project in a timely manner.
  • Finally, I understand that most participant support funding will be reimbursed according to the University of Alaska Anchorage guidelines.
