Partnership Workshops

As part of this collaboration, workshops have been held for teams of STEM faculty and administrators. The workshops featured introductions to various pedagogies of engagement, special topics of interest such as workforce partnerships and STEM facilities, and time for campus teams to create action plans for their campuses.

At the 2008 PKAL Summit and MnSCU meeting, participants had a once-in-a life-time opportunity for extended conversations with those whose pioneering pedagogical reforms are transforming the undergraduate STEM learning environment.

October, 2008 PKAL Workshop: Moving to Action

This workshop was October 24 - 25 (Friday 4 p.m. - Saturday 4 p.m.) at Central Lakes in Brainerd. Check out the agenda and the Teaching Activities that were created.

February, 2009 PKAL Workshop: Integrating Technology, Strengthening Communities

This PKAL Workshop was within the MnSCU Realizing Student Potential Conference on February 27 - 28, 2009 at Minneapolis Community & Technical College. We welcomed many new participants!

February 2009 Workshop: Planning Facilities that Serve the Undergraduate STEM Learning Environment

This special workshop was held for institutions that are planning STEM facilities. Teams of administrators, faculty, and architects spent time discovering how to plan a facility that strengthens STEM learning and increases student engagement and success. February 12 - 13, 2009 at Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Coon Rapids. Proceedings now available!

Spring 2009 PKAL Workshops: Bridging Disciplines

Three regional workshops were offered which explored a variety of pedagogies and techniques to aid student learning. Each workshop had a theme of local interest and was co-led by campus colleagues. Faculty were encouraged to attend a workshop nearby or a workshop based on the theme.

April 24 - 25, 2009: Collaborative Mapping: Pathways, Partnerships, and Pedagogies at Ridgewater College, Willmar
This workshop was designed for STEM high school teachers, college faculty and industry members to explore partnerships possibilities. We examined Pedagogies of Engagement which are useful in incorporating relevancy and incorporating the interdisciplinary nature of issues.

April 24 - 25, 2009: Active Learning Strategies: Project Kaleidoscope Across the Disciplines at Bemidji State University
This workshop was designed for college faculty from all disciplines to examine Pedagogies of Engagement that have been shown to be effective in STEM classrooms. Featured pedagogies were Reacting to the Past, Interactive Lecture Techniques, Clickers, and more.

May 1 - 2, 2009: Go Green = Renew + Energy -> Power of Engagement at Minnesota State University, Mankato

This workshop is designed for high school teachers and college faculty to examine Pedagogies of Engagement which are useful in courses that examine various aspects of energy.
