The Math You Need Workshop 2011

Travel arrangements and registration should be completed by June 1, 2011.

Travel by Air

Air travel arrangements should be made so that you fly into the Seattle/Tacoma (SEA) airport. highline image The workshop will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27. Please make your plans so that you will be able to attend the first session. We will conclude after lunch on Friday, July 29. It is essential that you attend the full workshop. Transportation to and from the airport takes 15-20 minutes (the hotel has a free shuttle).

Travel by Car

The conference will take place in Des Moines, WA, about 7 miles south of the Seattle-Tacoma Airport. The Best Western Plaza by the Green is located in Kent, WA, just off I-5. For directions to the hotel by car, please see the hotel information page.

Lodging

Room reservations have been made for everyone attending the workshop at the Best Western Plaza by the Green in Kent, WA. Each participant will have a private room with a phone, Internet access, refrigerator and coffee maker. There is a free shuttle from the airport and transportation to and from Highline CC will also be provided by the hotel.

Communications

You will have a telephone in your room at the Best Western and messages can be left at the hotel desk - 253/854-8767. Wireless internet access is also provided by the hotel and will be available in the meeting room. We ask that you bring a wireless enabled laptop to the workshop so that you can work on your course throughout the workshop. If you do not have access to a laptop, please contact Jen Wenner or Eric Baer and we'll make arrangements.

Meals

We will have most meals at the College (either in our meeting room or nearby). In the evenings, meals will be at local restaurants or on campus. All meals will include vegetarian offerings. Please provide information on the registration form if you require special meals. The price of all meals and gratuities during the workshop is covered. However, the NSF grant does not cover alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase during some meal-times.

What to expect

Des Moines is a small suburban town located about 15 mile south of downtown Seattle. The climate is typical of the Pacific Northwest. Plan to bring clothes you can layer. The meeting room is air conditioned.

A shuttle will take you and the other participants to the conference each morning. We will spend most of the day at Highline Community College. Please let us know if you have any concerns about accommodations or mobility. The Best Western will serve continental breakfast each morning. There is a heated indoor pool.

We expect each participant to bring a wireless enabled laptop computer to work on. Wireless Internet access is available in the workshop space on the Highline campus as well as in the hotel.
