Education Research Groups

  • SABER (Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research) - SABER is a scientific community whose members develop theory and generate evidence with the goal of improving biology education. SABER fosters Biology Education Research (BER) and its dissemination by defining the standards for BER practice, supporting the BER community through training and faculty development programs, and fostering collaborations among BER investigators - https://saberbio.wildapricot.org//

Journals

Frameworks/Guiding Documents

  • The Vision and Change initiative, a collaborative effort of NSF, HHMI, AAAS, and NIH is investing in a number of activities designed to transform undergraduate biology teaching - http://visionandchange.org/

Affiliated Groups

  • RCN-UBE projects and other networks, such as:
    • Faculty Developer Network for Undergraduate Biology Education (FDN-UBE) is an NSF-funded RCN-UBE project for advancing the professional development of undergraduate biology faculty to improve teaching and learning of biology. The network is building and supporting a community of practitioners to analyze the state of the field of professional development, identify gaps in practice, and then engage professional societies and other organizations in a series of coordinated and collaborative efforts to improve faculty development.
    • The Biology Teaching Assistant Project (BioTAP) is a network for improving the teaching professional development (TPD) provided to biology graduate students. The goal of BioTAP is to work with each other to improve TPD for all biology graduate students so that these GTAs can deliver the best possible teaching and learning environment for undergraduate students in their classes. https://biotap.utk.edu/
