Vision and Goals

The goal of the STEM Center for Math and Science Education is to meet the needs of K-12 math and science teachers through professional development, graduate classes, hands-on training, materials and equipment.

Center/Program Structure

The Harding University STEM Center for Math and Science Education is located on the third floor of the Thornton Education Center and operates as a part of the College of Education. We have both a K-12 math and a K-12 science instructional specialist who serve area schools and teachers. The center is overseen by faculty in the college of education.

Description of Programming

Our center offers a wide range of math and science materials for checkout and classroom use. The STEM Center for Math and Science Education serves teachers by providing access to resources, materials and professional development. The list of available materials can be viewed online, and materials can be delivered to area schools free of charge.

Professional development and other services that are available include: AIMS workshops, analysis of standardized test results, common core state standards instruction, curriculum alignment, curriculum mapping, FOSS/DSM workshops, GEMS workshops, GeoGebra instruction, GLOBE workshops, next generation science standards instruction, and workshops designed to meet the needs of schools and teachers.

Successes and Impacts

The STEM Center for Math and Science Education has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants over the last 3 decades to provide training and materials to teachers.

Elements Contributing to Success

With facilities provided by the College of Education the Harding University STEM Center is able to serve both inservice and preservice teachers.
