The University of Texas Austin seeks an executive director to head the Texas Institute for Discovery Education in Science (TIDES), the undergraduate teaching innovation initiative in the College of Natural Sciences. TIDES aims to catalyze, support, and showcase innovative, evidence-based undergraduate science and math education through student programming, faculty and future faculty development, and educational evaluation. Candidates with an active research program in STEM education may be eligible for a tenure-track / tenured position, depending on qualifications and departmental fit. Application review begins July 18, 2016.

The executive director will:

- Administer TIDES, including setting budget and budget priorities, implementing strategies for enhancing innovative teaching that are aligned with College and university-level recommendations, and supervising faculty and personnel associated with the College's undergraduate research programs, including the Freshman Research Initiative.

- Collaborate in the design, implementation and assessment of new faculty-driven initiatives in education.

- Facilitate and deliver professional development on evidence-based teaching and mentoring for current and future faculty.

- Oversee the evaluation of program effectiveness, including impact on student progress and success.

- Actively seek extramural funding to support TIDES programming and partner with the CNS External Relations office to promote and fundraise for TIDES programming.

- Serve on the Dean's leadership team.

Required qualifications: Doctoral degree in a science, math, or related field. Knowledge of science and math education research, with a preference for a publication history in this area; experience leading undergraduate education initiatives; and experience teaching at the undergraduate level. Applicants should have at least five years of experience promoting teaching professional development or institutional change. Proven supervisory and budget management skills. A record of success in obtaining grant funding and other external resources. Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills are required. Applicants must be willing and able to travel. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications: More than the above experience. Publication history in science or math education research. Specific experience in funding, managing, and evaluating undergraduate research programs. Experience leading and supporting instructional change in higher education.
