Building on Students' Cultural Practices in STEM

The authors present two examples of leveraging cultural practices of students from non-dominant communities in STEM classrooms. They examine the context of playing dominoes among African American youth and adults and a middle school science and engineering classroom in which the teacher incorporates students' everyday communication patterns into a lesson.
