Figure 3. Annual varve thickness at Summit Lake (thin gray line). The black line is the 5-year moving average. Recall that varve thickness is the amount of sediment deposited at that point in the lake. Thicker varves mean more sediment has been delivered. Notice the years with large thickness around the middle of the record!
