Figure 5. Comparison between GIS images of the Everglades ridge and slough landscape and simulated ridge and slough landscapes. A simulation model was developed to test whether the combination of a sediment transport feedback and differential peat accretion feedback could be sufficient to promote the development of a regularly patterned ridge-and-slough landscape from a wet environment with randomly initialized topography. Sloughs are shown in gray and ridges are in black. Flow is oriented from top to bottom.
