Figure 4. Photographs of the contrasting Granite and Limestone Dominated terrain and soils. A. The clay-rich red soil of the granite deposits is visible in the photograph. When these soils are exhumed, they are quickly eroded and you see rilling such as that visible in the photograph. B. The calcium carbonate-cemented petrocalcic horizon of the limestone deposit is visible in the walls of an incised arroyo in a typical wash found in a limestone terrain.
