Trees buried by gravel deposits

Figure 2. During a flood in 1964, more than 6 m of sand and gravel were deposited in the channel bed of Redwood Creek, burying and killing many trees. Since then, Redwood Creek has cut through the deposits, exposing the remains of the streamside forest (seen in foreground).
