Figure 9.15: (A) constructed artificial oysters reefs to help reduce wave energy at marsh edges and hence reduce erosion of marsh, and help accrete sediment (B) natural oyster reef in Georgia, USA at low tide/note that the tidal bar sands are submerged during high tide (C) An oyster reef in the Eastern Scheldt estuary will dissipate wave energy and trap sediment in its landward side, halting the erosion of the tidal flats locally.
