This image features the recent Arkansas River meander cutoff (man-made 1954) that comprises the Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge southeast of Dardanelle, Arkansas. Meanders, meander cutoffs, oxbow lakes, point bars, and meander scars are are reaily visible. The “ridge and swale” topography resulting from bank erosion and lateral accretion of point bars is reflected in aerial and satellite imagery by clear curved coloration patterns. The different coloration patterns result from the presence of woodlands and of different foraging crops planted for migrating waterfowl.
