Strong Shaking Potential
Shaking expected due to earthquakes along any of the fault zones in the Bay Area. The map uses the Modified Mercall Intensity (MMI) scale to designate categories of shaking and expected damage. The regions are based on a 10% chance that the area will experience shaking of the designated MMI level or higher over a time period of 50 years.
