Peatland & Watershed Surveys

Lead Researcher: Katie Gavenus, Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies

Internship Description

This research internship focuses on completing peatland and wetland surveys at the Carl E. Wynn Nature Center and Inspiration Ridge Preserve. These locations are based on the benchlands located above Homer, Alaska. The intern will work mostly alongside naturalists from the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies to survey peat depth, collect water quality measurements, and identify plant species - as well as signs of animal use - present in the bogs and wetlands of both locations. This collaborative project also may include opportunities to work with volunteers from Homer Drawdown: Peatland Project and/or graduate students from the University of Michigan.
