Session goals
- Identify positive factors (including many beyond the classroom) that can factor into STEM student success and retention
- Model how factors can be developed into a personal narrative
- Provide participants the opportunity to identify their own examples of positive factors from their careers as a tool for advising and mentoring

Session goals
- Share examples of successful field-based experiences that work to strengthen content knowledge and develop critical thinking skills in our students
- Develop strategies to incorporate field-based instruction and data usage into courses
- Share strategies for overcoming logistical concerns associated with field experiences, including how to "bring the field" to all students

- Model and introduce effective active-learning techniques for teaching in the field
- Strategies for planning and running effective field-based learning opportunities

8:30-9:30 Arrive at first outcrop (Hamilton Formation) - What does a student experience in the field? A discussion of how to structure field assignments and expectations
