This activity sheet (PDF download) allows students to create a physical model illustrating the soil water balance using glasses to represent the soil column. They use data from the GLOBE Data Server to calculate the potential evapotranspiration (the amount of water needed to meet the demand for the month), average monthly temperatures and precipitation for their model. They then construct a model representing the soil water balance for their site.
