This chapter focuses on the recent efforts of the National Park Service to "take stock" of biological diversity including surveys on the species, ecosystems, and genetics preserved in national parks. A number of these national park surveys are highlighted on this site including one titled "Uncharted territory: Exploring life in Yellowstone National Park’s hot springs." This survey involves research efforts to inventory the biodiversity, ecology, and distribution of the thermophiles within Yellowstone National Park's thermal features.
