This educational website, maintained by the American Society of Microbiologists, provides interactive activities and information for students to explore microbes. Students join Sam Sleuth to solve various microbe mysteries, such as what microbes are, where microbes live, and how humans use microbes. Each mystery includes a question for students to explore, along with photographs, illustrations, and text for students to solve the mystery. One section of the site, Microbes in the News, presents a collection of articles that discuss discoveries and accounts of microbes. The Experiment section contains instructions for students to examine the world of microbes such as Biosphere in a Bottle, where students are asked to use household materials to explore some of the factors that determine where bacteria can live. In addition, the site offers information about a variety of careers in microbiology and describes the steps students should take if they are interested in becoming a microbiologist.
