Arctic Research Consortium of the United States

Arctic Alive! is a distance-learning environment that transports learners virtually to unique and remote locations within the arctic region. It is not an information site, but an interactive, real-time, and unique web-based education program. Using a variety of delivery methods and e-learning strategies, it delivers arctic research to the K-12 classroom. Two key program components are (1) a teacher in the field with the researchers to facilitate activities in the classroom and (2) student interactions with the researchers. Educators and students are able to integrate the program not only into their sciences curriculum but also social studies, and technology curriculum. The Artic Alive! program aligns with National Education Standards in technology, science, and math, as well as Alaska Content Standards for Students. Each year Arctic Alive! focuses on producing a science-themed program. During April 2002, the project focused on geoscience research investigating the Arctic and its role in global climate change.
