This animation shows the trajectory of aerosols as they cross the Atlantic Ocean from Africa to the Caribbean. Comprised of Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) aerosol index images collected from June 12-21, 2001, it shows a cloud of Saharan dust caught up in northeast trade winds crossing the ocean and eventually raining down upon the Caribbean, carrying with it minerals, microbes, fungi, and bacteria. The movie runs in a continuous loop.
